Bass has been a part of Dan Chmielinski's life for as long as he can remember. A beginner on the bass at the age of three, Dan has become a successful and accomplished bassist who performs frequently in both the Chicago and New York City areas. He is currently a bass student of Ben Wolfe and majors in Jazz Studies at The Juilliard School.
Dan plays both jazz and classical music and is inspired by all genres of music. Dan performed with the Midwest Young Artists Big Band (2009-2012) and Symphony Orchestra (2008-2012), the Fatum Brothers Jazz Orchestra (2008-2010), and with various ensembles in Chicago. Dan appeared on the Fatum Brothers Jazz Orchestra’s debut album, "Here to Say," and performed with them on the "Here to Say" tour.
In addition, Dan was selected to record with the Civic & Arts Foundation on the album "Chicago Palette," featuring the top solo jazz improvisation competition finalists since the competition's conception. Dan was also invited to participate in Ravinia’s prestigious “Steans Institute,” in which 15 musicians are hand selected to engage in weeklong study with jazz masters David Baker, Nathan Davis, Curtis Fuller and Rufus Reid. He has performed with the Illinois Music Educators Association Allstate Honors Jazz Combo, as well as the IMEA Allstate Honors Orchestra.
Dan is also an avid photographer and runs his own photography business.
